September 15, 2025, the Hernando County BOCC voted 4-1 to APPROVE the 50 acre rezoning request,Public Utility overlay, therefore allowing the sale of SHSR to WREC.                    

Commissioner Amsler was the only Commissioner to vote nay.

All Commissioners were on record saying they heard from many of their constituents but felt the WREC sale was a better move to provide a non-profit utility company the growth they needed from donated land.
